Coolant Problems and Solutions

Bacterial Growth

  • Lean concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Tramp Oil – Skim off tramp oil
  • Other – Aerate Fluid

Corrosion

  • Lean concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • High Humidity – Use in-process corrosion preventative
  • Bacteria – Add biocide
  • Improper handling – Keep parts from touching Use fingerprint neutralizer-corrosion preventative
  • Contamination – Eliminate source of contamination – Recharge more frequently

Foam

  • Strong concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Pump cavitation – Keep pump inlet completely submerged
  • Sharp bends in fluid – Round off the bends eliminating return troughs restrictions
  • Other – Add Antifoam
  • Carryover from prior – Fix problem upstream operation

Heavy Dirt

  • Strong concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Foam – Recommend Defoamer
  • High tramp oil – Skim off oil
  • Poor filtering – Check filter – Check sump, dump if needed

High pH

Alkaline carryover from – Eliminate Carryover prior operation

Low pH

  • Lean concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Bacteria – Add biocide
  • Mold – Add Fungicide
  • Acid Carryover – Eliminate source
  • Other – Adjust pH with additive

Mold

  • Lean concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Tramp oil – Skim off oil
  • High dirt – Review filtration
  • Sudden elimination of – Use biocide with fungicidal all bacterial pop. properties

Odor

  • Bacteria – Add biocide
  • Mold – Add biocide
  • Strong concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Other – Try to determine cause

Poor Tool LIfe

  • Improper concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • Poor fluid application – Direct fluid into the cut zone
  • Inadequate fluid – Obtain at least 25 gpm to cut flow to cut
  • High tramp oil – Skim off oil
  • High dirt – Review filtration
  • Inadequate lubrication – Select heavier duty coolant

Residue

  • Strong concentration – Adjust concentration to recommended level
  • High tramp oil – Skim off oil
  • High dirt – Review filtration
  • Poor maintenance – Establish routine cleaning and machine maintenance

Poor Emulsion

  • Low pH – Adjust concentration to recommended level (if low)
  • High bacteria – Add biocide
  • Carryover from prior – Identify source and eliminate operation
