Daily monitoring of coolant
pH should be carefully monitored since too low a pH can cause emulsions to break down and allow excessive biological growth. These organisms destroy the emulsifiers and pH adjusters which results in rusting, offensive odors, and loss of the coolant’s lubricating properties.
If the value obtained is too low, the pH can be adjusted by the addition of pH adjusters, such as borax and soda ash, or fresh make-up.
Care should be taken not to make pH too high since this could lead to possible skin irritations.
